Mackie Mayor
Mackie Mayor is a food hall in Manchester, UK. It occupies a restored historic building (Grade II-listed) that was formerly part of the Smithfield Market hall.
Built in 1857
The building was constructed in 1857–1858 to serve as a market hall for Smithfield Market
From Closure to Conservation
The original market closed in 1972, and many of its buildings were demolished or repurposed. Mackie Mayor (the hall) was one of the few parts that survived intact. It was listed as Grade II in the early 1970s.
Stunning 21st-Century Revival
After years of disuse and partial neglect, it was restored and transformed into the current food hall, opening to the public in 2017.
